These thoughts are from a pamphlet by Carol and Tom Sanders
1. Be a good partner and teammate. Morale is important.
2. Give every deal your undivided attention. Most matches are lost by
careless mistakes usually caused by a lack of concentration.
3. Play to make your contract as declarer...never risk a game for an
overtrick or two. Bid close vulnerable games.
4. With a preemptive type hand, jump up and bid it when opponents are
vulnerable and you are not.
5. Penalty doubles should be avoided. Lead directing doubles are okay.
6. Par bridge, i.e., taking everything which is yours without attempting
to steal what belongs to your opponents, will win most Swiss matches.
In duplicate you want to steal.
